Hi All Members,

As Myles was away and unable to participate in Sunday’s FVAWA Giant Mandurah Round 5, I thought I’d step in to give you a recap of the day’s events.

We originally had twenty-one cars entered, but unfortunately, Vini Paduano and Renan Sanchez had to withdraw due to illness. I blew my engine (technically Anthony Lee’s engine) in Race 1, which put me out for the rest of the day. Despite these setbacks, seven 1600’s finished the race day without any further car troubles or major incidents, providing us with some excellent racing. It was also great to have our major sponsor, Jason Fowler, back on the track in his F2K9 Jacer.

With eleven 1200’s entered and finishing the day, there was plenty of racing action from the front runners to the back of the field. It was particularly nice to see our club secretary, Campbell Gow, and former club president, David Campbell, out on track.

In Race 1, Bruce Welsh experienced turning issues and retired early (he might be a candidate for the coveted Dummy Spit award :-)). Ben Wilkins also had to retire early due to gear linkage issues. Race 2 saw an unfortunate incident involving three of the leading 1200’s – Callum Lamont, David Campbell, and Andrew Lockett – in Turn 6. This collision allowed Jonathan Scarey to just edge out April Welsh for first place.

All three cars involved in the Race 2 incident started at the rear of the grid for Race 3 and finished successfully. Isaac Scarey’s 1200 had distributor issues, preventing him from completing Race 3. Hopefully, they can sort out these gremlins so he can be back to his usual fast self in Collie. April Welsh’s excellent defence of her position in Race 3 earned her the highly regarded Commentator’s Driver of the Day plaque.

As a gentle reminder, please remember that we all pay the same membership and entry fees and deserve the same respect and racing room, no matter where we are on the track.

Looking forward to seeing everyone back on the track for August’s Round 6 at Collie Motorplex.
