Bathurst Vees

Some of the FVAWA cars and drivers heading to Bathurst

A group of seven local Formula Vee racers will make the trip to Australia's motorsport Mecca this week (16th Feb 2009) to compete in a curtain-raiser to the annual Bathurst 12-Hour.
It will be the biggest group of Vees to ever represent WA.
Only two went last year, Jez Hammond and Bruce Welsh. This year they will be joined by Ben Riley (Jacer), Derek Burns (Phoenix), Chris Scoble (Scoovee), Robert Lambe (Ribuck) and Mark McKay (Jacer).
Five are 1600s with Welsh and Lambe running in the 1200 category. There will be 55 cars on the grid for the Formula Vee races.
The Vees will have one six-lap race on Friday, February 20 and two on the Saturday. Sunday is reserved for the Production cars in the Bathurst 12 Hour. With the Mt Panorama circuit being 6.2km in length some cars may be testing their fuel tank capacity.
Motorsport purists rate Formula Vee as the most exciting and affordable racing class in Australia. It is certainly one of the biggest. Competition is so close that positions change frequently within the course of a single lap. The variety of cars is enormous with a lot of them being homemade and very unique designs.
All seven cars will be trucked to Bathurst.
